Plans for Leeds South Bank to be unveiled at MIPIM 2016

LEEDS City Region will unveil further plans for the regeneration of Leeds South Bank at this year’s MIPIM conference.

The event, which takes places in Cannes between 15 and 18 March, will see representatives from LCR Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) accompanied by delegates from 17 companies, including as Arup, Bilfinger GVA, Savills, Arcadis and Addleshaw. It is the largest private sector group to attend the conference with local authority officials.

Leeds South Bank is the largest regeneration project in Western Europe and includes Leeds Docks, the Tetley Brewery site and the city’s former industrial heartland of Holbeck. Improved infrastructure and a proposed HS2 station are already earmarked for the area.

Delegates are hoping to secure investment, development and occupier interest for this and other projects in the region by attending. Smart cities and business growth through high-speed rail will also be on the agenda for the group.

Roger Marsh, chairman of the LEP, said: “MIPIM 2016 is about showing that we as a City Region have much to offer international investors, developers and occupiers.

“What’s more we have a track record of success, with developments such as MEPC’s Wellington Place, Scarborough Group International’s Thorpe Park Leeds and Westfield’s The Broadway Shopping Centre, all having benefitted from international investment and are now helping unlock further growth.”

James Dipple, chief executive of MEPC who is developing Wellington Place in Leeds, said: “The last 12 months have seen the attitude in the market evolve, now more and more occupiers, investors and developers are recognising the potential of the regions and are excited by the opportunities being unlocked.”
