GEORGINA TAYLOR from audit, tax and consulting firm RSM in Leeds has been awarded the Sharp Consultancy ‘Young Accountant of the Year’ accolade for 2016.

The award was presented at an awards ceremony held at the Royal Armouries.

At 21, Ms Taylor becomes the youngest holder of the title to date.

The competition was established in 2000 and is run by the financial recruitment specialists Sharp Consultancy in conjunction with the West Yorkshire Society of Chartered Accountants.

The awards recognise the best of the region’s accountants who are either training to be qualified or have been qualified for up to two years.

Ms Taylor, from Doncaster, joined RSM in September 2012.

Kevin O’Connor, RSM’s regional managing partner for Yorkshire and the North East said: “We are all incredibly proud of Georgina’s achievement. Her performance in her accounting exams has been exceptional and she fully deserves this award. I am sure she has a very promising career ahead of her.”

A PR professional from South Yorkshire has been named a finalist in a national awards programme set up in memory of one of the industry’s brightest stars.

Chloe Staniforth has been shortlisted for this year’s Suzy Ferguson Spirit Award.

The award, now in its third year, was launched by London agency Lewis, Ms Ferguson’s former employees. Ms Ferguson died from bowel cancer in 2012, aged 31.

Ms Staniforth was nominated by her employers Cream, a Barnsley-based PR agency.

Elizabeth Hudson, a director at Cream, said: “Chloe’s great enthusiasm for the job is infectious. Despite just turning 20, she is remarkably mature when dealing with clients and complex situations.

“When Cream was commissioned to provide independent PR and media support for Alexis Jay OBE, author of an independent inquiry into child sexual exploitation in Rotherham, Chloe worked closely to help the story to appear in 9,940 articles and reach 900 million people.

“As a then 18-year-old from Rotherham, Chloe gave media interviews, wrote published articles and blogs and was a credit to her employers and her town. She has suffered serious health problems for the past 18 months but this hasn’t dented her enthusiasm or determination.”

The winner will be announced at a ceremony on March 18.
