Investments push companies on to greater success

MAJOR investments in facilities, people and time have pushed Yorkshire businesses on to be named award winners at the 2016 Business Masters.

Xscape Yorkshire’s trampolining park Gravity, which has put a spring into the step of the destination by bringing in another half-a-million people, was a key reason for it winning the Lifestyle Business of the Year award. It is already in the top 20 visitor attractions in England and continues to develop and grow.
Yorkshire Building Society’s huge investment in time, that has seen 30% of its staff take up its  scheme which gives them 31 hours’ paid leave for corporate volunteering, saw it win the Pride/CSR award. Its projects range from promoting financial literacy in schools to supporting cancer charity Marie Curie, and the organisation looks to use the skills and of its people to maximise the impact of the time given.

Professional Services Firm of the Year was won by law firm Squire Patton Boggs, after a busy year that has seen its Leeds office win and do a number of significant deals in the region. It caps it off with the culmination of a major investment in facilities, with a move to Wellington Place now imminent.

Ramsden International took home the Exporter of the Year award, sponsored by UKTI. The grocery exporter, which sells tea to China and maple syrup to Canada among its 23,000 items that go to 130 countries, has enjoyed a year of strong growth that has seen it open an office in Sydney and benefit from new offices in Hong Kong, Dubai and Cape Town.
The Small Business of the Year award was won by Hull business Bio-D. The company, which produces eco-friendly household cleaning products, is growing sales at twice the rate of its category and has recently moved to premises with four times the floor space.
