Wise guys sit down with The Yorkshire Mafia at the Buy Yorkshire 2016 conference

ENTERING its 6th year, Buy Yorkshire is set to take place on the 17th and 18th May 2016.

Yorkshire’s largest annual business event welcomes over 150 exhibitors and 5000 registered delegates each year to meet each other, trade, network and develop commercial relationships. But what is it about this particular event that attracts exhibitors and delegates in such large numbers?

“It’s good, that’s why!”, says Geoff Shepherd, Yorkshire Mafia and Buy Yorkshire chairman.

“The event has really set the standard for regional conferences. In fact, Buy Yorkshire is big and good enough to be considered a national conference, and we do get a good number delegates traveling from across the UK to attend the event. It’s free to attend, there’s a great line up, a huge exhibition and thousands of businesses will be in attendance… Buy Yorkshire? I would!”

Buy Yorkshire began life in 2011 with 1000 delegates and 75 exhibitors. Since then the event has grown significantly in stature, attracting speakers such as Alastair Campbell, one of LinkedIn’s North America Directors, Michelle Mone, Ranulph Fiennes, Salesforce’s European VP, Jacqueline Gold, Lord Kirkham, CEO of Barlcays and many more.

After talking with exhibitors and delegates at Buy Yorkshire 2015 Priti Patel, Minister of State for Employment, said “this is a hub, this is the engine room of the Yorkshire economy!”

That may be overstated, but one thing for sure is that getting so many businesses together certainly acts as a significant economic catalyst, something which Geoff confirmed; “We get around £8m of day trading at the event, and much more done via the varying sales-cycles post Buy Yorkshire. It’s a big boost for Yorkshire business”.

Delegates can expect to see senior executives from world-class brands on the stage, such as Tesla, LinkedIn, Unilever, Pinterest and many more.
