Jobs promised at £4m purpose-built distribution development

PARCEL delivery company DPD has teamed up with a developer to launch a £4m distribution depot.

Developer Horncastle Group, along with Hull-based construction company Hobson and Porter, has broken ground on the 47,145 sq ft site at Ozone Business Park in Howden.

The site will include a warehouse, 6,716 sq ft of office space as well as parking. It will create 50 additional jobs.

It will be able to process around 20,000 packages a day for delivery within a 50 mile radius.

DPD is relocating its 50 staff from its operation in Goole to the site, from September 2016 and is on track to double this with the new site according to Louise Ferguson, general manager of property at DPD

Ms Ferguson said: “Our new Howden depot will be a state-of-the-art, purpose-built distribution facility that will allow us to expand our existing operation to meet our growing business needs and create a significant number of new jobs.”

Ozone Business Park is home to companies including Warburtons and Image Data.

Horncastle Group will retain ownership of the building and lease it to DPD on a long term agreement.

Ian Hodges, managing director of Horncastle Group PLC, said: “We’re delighted to see construction begin on site and are confident that work will progress quickly, ensuring the facility will be completed and ready to become operational in September.

“DPD is one of the UK’s best loved parcel delivery companies and it will be fantastic to welcome them to the site later this year. Attracting such high profile businesses to Ozone Business Park is fantastic news for the region and testament to the great location and design and build quality of the development.”
