Expanding leisure group swoops for four-star hotel

A HOTEL in South Yorkshire has been acquired by a London-based group in a £2.5m deal.
Acting on behalf of RBS, Colliers International has sold The Sheffield Metropolitan Hotel to London Town Group, which is now expanding its operations across the UK.
The 10-storey Sheffield Metropolitan Hotel provides 111 rooms and offers additional development opportunity in the form of a former petrol filling station shop.
Julian Troup, head of UK hotels, Colliers International, said: “The Sheffield Metropolitan provided a rare opportunity to acquire a large city centre hotel with opportunities to substantially increase trade through further development.
“Our recent sales of the Cutlers Hotel, also in Sheffield, and the New Ellington Hotel in Leeds, resulted in a number of disappointed and qualified buyers looking for substantial hotels across the Yorkshire region, it was not surprise therefore that we received a great deal of interest in this opportunity.”
Koolesh Shah, managing director of the London Town Group, said: “The Sheffield Metropolitan Hotel is an ideal fit for our expanding regional portfolio with existing hotels in Nottingham and Derby. We intend to refurbish the hotel and brand it with a major franchisor.”
