5 career investments worth making

Putting your hard-earned cash into a career that is supposed to be generating money may seem like an odd idea, but investing in these career moves can be the best thing you’ve ever done.
1. University – £44k
It’s still a popular move to make when in your late teens, despite the seemingly glum future after graduation. Whilst getting a job after graduating is difficult and may not pay a great deal, rest easy in the fact that you won’t have to pay a penny back until you’re earning over £21,000.
So it’s fair to say for the first few years of your career you won’t have to worry too muchabout that looming debt over your head. But once the monthly payments do come, your degree should ensure you have more than enough money to pay back this small investment to your career.

2. MBA – £22k
Once in the ranks of middle management, an MBA can give you the knowledge and CV boost to move up further. It’s not an easy option, but if used correctly, propel your career to new heights.
3. Relocation – £20k
Relocating can be exactly what you need to enhance your career prospects. Whilst mortgages don’t come cheap these days, bagging your dream job and a higher salary is worth investing in.
Once you’ve decided to relocate, it’s really all about finding the right job with the right salary, and by being willing to move, the world really is your oyster.
4. Sabbatical – unlimited
The cost largely depends on where you go and for how long, but generally a sabbatical will take you far from the UK, so that you can really explore different cultures and find yourself. The cost of a sabbatical mainly consists of lost wages as well as the travel expenses themselves.
Whilst this won’t guarantee you more money – for a while it will leave you fairly strapped for cash actually – those who take time out of work to gain valuable professional and personal life experiences will often be more focused when they return and have gained skills.
5. Volunteer – Free
If you’re fairly short on money, but have a large amount of spare time, this one’s an easy way to make your CV stand out. Having gained experience, contacts and networked with people, it should be easier to bag a higher paid job. And since you’ve given nothing but your time, it’s a win-win situation.
