Manufactured Yorkshire gets in gear

MANUFACTURED YORKSHIRE opens its doors to more than 800 delegates today, including buyers and manufacturers.

Meet the buyer events will benefit the food and drink, engineering and textiles manufacturers that are heading to the Centenary Pavilion at Elland Road in Leeds today.

Special guests include Vince Cable and director of manufacturing at Rolls Royce Dr Hamid Mugha, the marketing director at Seabrook Crisps Kevin Butterworth, as well as representatives from Timothy Taylor’s, Microsoft, Asda, Nestle and Approved Foods.

“If you can do business in Yorkshire, you can do business anywhere, said organiser Chrissie Gale, who bought the event back in 2014 and relaunched it in 2015. “I’m sick of travelling, why shouldn’t we do them in Yorkshire?”

“We’re building a legacy here,” she said.

“Delegates showcase the latest in disruptive technologies, and it’s important for ifferent manufacturing sectors to work together.

Ms Gale said: “Oil and gas prices have affected a lot of supply chains which are experiencing fluctuations. For them it’s about getting and keeping clients.

“The outlook is mixed, especially for manufacturers attempting to compete on a global level. We can’t compete with peak volume levels or cheap prices abroad, but that’s where local supply comes in.

“Local companies have smaller lead times of days or weeks. It can be months if products are coming from places like China. After price, time is the next big issue.”
