Millions of pounds worth of work up for grabs

THE Hull City Wide Regeneration consortium is urging businesses to come forward and tender for millions of pounds worth of work which is up for grabs.

Housing developers Keepmoat, Strata and Home Group are hosting a ‘Meet the developer’ event on Friday to introduce the next phase of upcoming schemes in the area, where local labourers and suppliers will be able to pick up tender packs to bid for work.

Hull Training and Construction Works will also be there on the day to discuss opportunities for apprenticeships and trainees.

Working in partnership with the Council, more than 1,100 new homes will be delivered across four sites in the Preston Road and Wawne areas of Hull.  This will comprise of a mix of two, three and four bedroom properties.

The Preston Road area is part of a comprehensive regeneration programme including the demolition of some substandard homes and the refurbishment of others currently taking place.

Counc John Black said: “Aside from building new homes which are needed across the city a key aim of our plans are to create jobs and contracts for local business. We encourage those looking for employment or training, and companies from one man enterprises to medium size to come along and check out these exciting opportunities opening up across the city.”

Mark Knight, regional managing director for Keepmoat in Yorkshire, added: “We want to maximise the local benefits of the regeneration project to ensure local people and businesses fully benefit from scheme wherever possible.  This event is part of our ongoing commitment to utilise local labour and supply chains in the area, while showcasing plans for the next phase.”

John O’Hare, Home Group senior delivery manager, said: “The partnership is investing half a billion pounds in Hull to significantly improve housing in the city and regenerate areas. We’re committed to improving communities and for every £1 invested in construction there is a multiplier effect of £2.84 to the economy. It is only right that we encourage local businesses to bid for work to keep that money in the area.”

The event will be held at The Freedom Centre in Hull between 10am and 2pm.
