Are you in or are you out? Chairman of York developer says peddling propaganda doesn’t make Eurocrats accountable

Martyn Harrison is the chairman of York development company S Harrison, the mastermins behind many developments including the Chocolate Works.
Are you in or are you out?
Out.
Why?
Because it’s not democratic. I feel strongly that our rules and laws should be set by our own democratically elected politicians, as opposed to non-elected Eurocrats, who cannot be removed and don’t seem to be answerable to anyone.
If we were currently not within the EU, I don’t think the British public would vote to join bearing in mind the state of the economies of many of the member states including Greece, Spain, Italy and France.
If the UK votes to leave, other countries will undoubtedly follow suit, thereby accelerating what I consider to be the inevitable collapse of the whole bureaucratic, dysfunctional set up.
In all honesty a vote to remain will not change my life, but I have an eight year-old son and I would like to see a stronger, self-governed UK for the younger generations.
What would a Brexit mean for your business?
The propaganda being pedalled by the Remain campaign lacks any real cohesion or soundly based financial projections, but sadly this will play on the natural fear of people toward change.
My prediction is that we will therefore remain in Europe and continue to be pushed around by Brussels and possibly ‘punished’ for considering an exit.
In terms of the immediate impact on our business we would not see one. If there were some short term pain, such as foreign property investors standing back to see how we shape up, I consider that an acceptable price to pay for a stronger economy in the medium and longer term.
It’s also important to remember that the vast majority of UK businesses don’t trade with Europe, but are bound by what it dictates.
