Spa development bubbling up as engineers start on £9.5m expansion

ENGINEERS have been appointed to the £9.5m spa expansion at Rudding Park in Harrogate.
Adept Consulting Engineers have been appointed to deliver structural designs for the development.
Main contractors Henry Boot and Howard Civil Engineering started work on the project earlier this year, which has been designed by Leeds architects Enjoy Design/
The plans for the three storey site include a 17 metre swimming pool, a hydrotherapy suite, thermal rooms, treatment complex, restaurant and bar as well as a feature rooftop garden.
Adept will design the reinforced concrete structures in the main building to support the weight of the swimming pool and the roof garden.
Erol Erturan, managing director at Adept, says: “This is a stunning project to work on and there’s no doubt that it will prove to be another major attraction to add to the splendid range of facilities at Rudding Park.
“However, it’s also a very complex project because of the vast weights involved. The roof garden alone will have a loading requirement of two tonnes per square metre, once it has been landscaped. To overcome this, we have designed a major concrete frame which has the added benefit of being extremely water tight and very good acoustically, which means parts of the building will be very quiet to enhance its relaxed ambience.”
Peter Banks, managing director at Rudding Park said: “This new Spa will surpass anything else in the north of England. The whole project is designed to recapture Harrogate’s Spa heritage, by providing a range of superb facilities in tranquil surroundings, and we’re delighted to be working with such an experienced team of consultants to deliver the scheme.”
Adept was founded in 2007 and employs a team of 30 in Leeds, Manchester and London.
