£10m Harrogate cinema scheme near capacity

A MAJOR leisure development in Harrogate is opening later this autumn with 90% of its space let.
The £10m cinema scheme on Station Parade replaces the former Beales Department store and Co-op’s Westgate store, creating 250 jobs in the process.
Harrogate-based regeneration firm 4Urban has been working on the 55,000 sq ft site, which has already seen several restaurants and bars including Cau, Byron Burgers, Cote, Ask Italian, Yo! Sushi and Veeno.
The anchor tenant will be an Everyman Cinema with five screens, in direct competition with the Odeon on East Parade. The company exchanged contracts on a 999 year long term lease for the site in August 2014. It cost the business £3.18m.
The developer said that “detailed negotiations” are close to being finalised for the remaining two ground floor units and of three residential apartments.
Paul Lancaster, managing director of 4Urban, said: “Like all of the lettings that we have completed, the remaining units will be taken by operators who are new to the town and, alongside Everyman, they will add considerably to the attraction of Harrogate as a retail and leisure destination.”
“Our aim from the outset was to raise the bar by creating a landmark scheme for high quality operators who want to invest in Harrogate and share in the town’s success.”
