SME Spotlight: Science business backed by industry giants launched

The anaerobic digestion business Amur plans on providing a route to the market for food and drink suppliers.

It is being backed by AB Agri, part of Associated British Foods bringing a wealth of experience to the table.

Amur is opening its first site in North Yorkshire and intends to work with food and drink suppliers to use their co-products as feedstocks for the growing AD market, giving surplus food and beverage output, and add further value to them by using them as feedstocks for AD facilities in the UK.

Amur is also building its own AD facility in South Milford, North Yorkshire which will not only act as a testing ground for new products but also a centre for potential customers to visit for a demonstration of its services.

Nigel Lee will lead the new business. He said: “Our primary goal is to work with suppliers from the food and drink industry, taking their co-products and utilising them as feedstocks for AD facilities in the UK.

“We aim to assist anaerobic digestion operators by introducing consistent, quality feedstocks that ensure security of supply, improve performance, capacity and optimise gas yields.”

Nigel Lee continued: “Our partners in the food and drink industry, as well as other suppliers, can be assured that within AB Agri and Associated British Foods, Amur has the size, the support and the expertise to ensure we’re finding the best route to market for their co-products to help them create profitable revenue streams over the long-term.”

Nigel Lee will be supported by an industry expert team including Technical Development Manager Christine Parry and Category Manager Dean Barclay.

Amur launched at the UK AD & Biogas 2016 trade show in Birmingham NEC earlier this month.
