The most affordable places with the best state schools revealed

ONE key factor in property prices is the quality of nearby schools, but research has shown some of the highest-achieving state schools in England are not in expensive areas.
eMoov.co.uk highlighted the top 50 state schools across the nation which offer the best mix of a good education and affordable property prices. They took the top 100 schools in England and compared the average house price in the surrounding area to the average GCSE score obtained by pupils at the school, based on the property price per a GCSE point (PPGP).
The top spot for 2016 goes to the Heckmondwike Grammar School in Kirklees, West Yorkshire. With pupils at Heckmondwike achieving an average score of 616.1 points and an average price paid for property around the school of just £113,507.
Heckmondwike Grammar School boasts a property price per GCSE point of just £184 which is the lowest across the country. The school has an impressive number of students achieving too, with 98% obtaining A*-C in their GCSE grades.

Also in the top 10 was North Halifax Grammar School, which came 5th with a PPGP of £246. House prices in the area of Illingworth in Halifax are an average £146,211 and an incredibly impressive 99% of pupils at the school obtain A*-C grades.
Other schools which made the top 10 were the likes of King Edward VI Handsworth School in Birmingham with a PPGP of £185 and The Blue Coat School in Liverpool with a PPGP of £198.
