The ISP that ‘will make you proud’ – and make £54m profits

PLUSNET, the Sheffield-based broadband provider that makes much of its Yorkshire roots, has done itself proud by achieving more than £50m profits.

The triple play internet service provider – it provides broadband, landline and digital TV – increased pre-tax profits by 45% to £54.1m.

Revenues grew 18% in the year to March to £267.0m, which attributed to a 13% increase in customers and “selective pricing changes”.

It said: “Plusnet has continued to invest significantly in marketing expenditure to increase its brand awareness. Couple with competitive pricing through discounts, this has been successful in driving a significant increase in broadband and phone customers during the year.”

Its marketing, which has included Sheffield 80s band Heaven 17 and spoon whittling, has been centred around the slogan “we’ll do you proud”.

Plusnet said it has successfully grown its dual play base – broadband and landline – with a “significant majority” of its customers taking two products.

It launched its first TV product last year and plans to continue to develop its TV offer.

The company, which is part of BT, employs 1,200 people split between its Sheffield head office and Leeds customer service centre.
