Engineering company completes £5m training facility
A BRIGHOUSE-based engineering and project management company has completed the design and build of a £5m process manufacturing training plant in Huddersfield that will help to develop engineers of the future.
As part of a project by Kirklees College in Huddersfield, Projex Solutions has completed and commissioned the planned design and installation of the new 10,225 sq ft Process Manufacturing Centre (PMC) which was launched last week.
The centre received capital funding support from the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership (LEP), and provides a state-of-the-art training facility incorporating a fully operational process manufacturing batch plant.
The building will eventually house filling and packaging equipment which meets the training requirements of process manufacturing industries, and also features classrooms and facilities to support the learning and development of future engineers and operation technicians.
Brian Lawson, head of process manufacturing at Kirklees College, said: “Projex’s expertise in engineering design has played a vital part in ensuring the Project Manufacturing Centre features the most accurate engineering processes that are both reflective of the ‘real life’ industry, whilst also incorporating further learning opportunities for students in a multi-discipline process engineering environment.”
Jamie Ashton, managing director at Projex Solutions, said: “Having built our own process manufacturing training rig on site, we had a great deal of knowledge of what was required – all be it on a much larger scale – for the PMC project.
“Our work on the PMC project has allowed us to share and develop best practices with Kirklees College to ensure that the training of future engineers is at the cutting edge of where it needs to be as the process manufacturing sector continues to evolve.”
