People: Regional head appointed by wealth manager; Construction firm announces new MD; and more

HULL construction firm Hobson & Porter has appointed Richard Hunter to the role of managing director.

Mr Hunter has more than 30 years’ experience in the Hull construction industry having also worked for Spencer Group.

The firm recently celebrated its 45th anniversary of trading, delivering construction projects of all sizes to clients across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

Mr Hunter said: “I am extremely proud to be taking on the role of managing director at Hobson & Porter, where I hope to maintain and expand our traditional organic growth and our position as a respected and client-focused leading contractor within Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

“We have established ourselves as one of the region’s most respected contractors and my team and I will continue to strengthen our team and supply chain partners over the coming months. This will help us to consolidate our position in the marketplace whilst providing a service that sees our clients, existing and new, coming back to us time and again.

KARAN SEJPAL has been announced as UBS Wealth Management’s regional head for Yorkshire and the North West.

Mr Sejpal has over 10 years’ experience working in wealth management, having previously held positions at Credit Suisse and Barclays Wealth.

He has spent the past two years as regional head North West at UBS Wealth Management, based in Manchester, building relationships with clients in the region. He will be taking on a dual role, splitting his time equally between the Leeds and Manchester offices.  

Jonathan Brown, head of regions, said: “We continue to see increased demand for our services in the regions. Karan, with his knowledge of Yorkshire and the North West, is well placed to lead these offices and ensure we continue to deliver a first-class service for our clients.”

A TRIO of staff have joined a South Yorkshire web development and IT company.

Impelling Solutions has appointed Jamie Wilson, Daniel Ionita and Tracey Gregory, who will be bringing their expertise and extensive IT experience to the education side of the Rotherham-based business.

Taking on the role of IT manager, Mr Wilson is responsible for providing on-site support for schools, including network and server installation and maintenance, as well as sales and advising customers on the best products to meet their requirements.

He previously worked at a Local Education Authority before starting his own IT support company, working within education and small to medium sized businesses.  

Mr Ionita and Ms Gregory have joined the company as IT operatives, roles which involve regular IT visits to South Yorkshire schools to solve issues and provide technical support.

LISTED building products group SIG has appointed Ian Duncan as a non-executive director.

Meanwhile Jonathan Nicholls, a non-executive director and chair of the audit committee, will retire from the board in March.

Mr Duncan is an experienced former finance director, non-executive director and chair of audit committee and SIG said he will bring strong operational and corporate finance experience to the group.  

Having developed a portfolio career since 2010, Mr Duncan has held several non-executive directorships and is currently a non-executive director and chair of the audit committee at Babcock International and Bodycote.  He was previously a non-executive director and chair of the audit committee at WANdisco and Fiberweb, and his last executive role was as group finance director of the Royal Mail Group.

Leslie Van de Walle, chairman of SIG, said: “We are delighted that Ian is joining the board of SIG, his knowledge and expertise in finance and change management make him the perfect fit for SIG.
