£130m residential scheme in the works

PROPOSALS for a £130m University of Hull student scheme have been put forward by partners UPP.

The University Partnerships Programme is launching plans for a West Campus Residence estate, raising the required investment as well as designing and constructing the buildings..

The residential accommodation will provide studios and one-bedroom apartments for more another 1,462 students.

Comprising on nine blocks, the site will also have amenities close by and outdoor spaces.

The planning application was submitted to Hull City Council following in-depth consultation with the public, and was designed by architects at tp bennett.

Professor Glenn Burgess, acting vice-chancellor at the University of Hull, said: “Students increasingly want modern, high-quality accommodation. This development ensures that we are able to meet these needs, as well as increase the number of students who can live on campus, in managed, secure and sustainable accommodation.”

Sean O’Shea, group chief executive officer at UPP commented: “We are delighted to have supported the University of Hull’s plans to develop the West Campus Residences Project. We are firmly invested in our partnership with the University and will work together and contribute positively to the student experience.

“The submission of the planning application is another step forward in this close relationship and we are excited to now take these plans forward into the next phase.”

The project is one of several significant investments being undertaken at the University, including The Courtyard, a £30m accommodation development for 562 students, the £28m Brynmor Jones Library development, the £9.5m redevelopment of Middleton Hall that has created a world-class concert hall and cinema, a £28m Health Campus currently under construction and around £15m being invested in sports facilities.
