Yorkshire lawyers for Irwin Mitchell defect to rival firm

Irwin Mitchell has been hit with resignations from lawyers in its Sheffield and Leeds offices.
Two lawyers are defecting to law firm Shoosmiths, which will be launching in Leeds in January. Phil Goldsborough from the corporate team in Leeds and Tom Hall in Sheffield in the real estate division have left to go to the new firm.
In October Shoosmiths announced it had chosen a permanent home in Leeds at Bruntwood’s redevelopment of the offices above Leeds Rail Station.
The top 40 firm signed a 10-year lease on the site, and are the first pre-lets in the Platform building.
It has hired Paul Stokey of Gordons to head its eleventh office in the UK. Judy Fawcett from Ward Hadaway and Richard Bellamy from Addleshaw Goddard joined the initial team, which is set to grow with the appointment of the lawyers from Irwin Mitchell.
A spokesperson from Irwin Mitchell said: “Following the appointment of Victoria Brackett as the new chief executive of our Business Legal Services team, we’ve refreshed our strategy and plans, creating new opportunities for a number of our people.
“This has included some structural changes to ensure we have people in the right roles and to get the right leadership team in place for the longer term. As part of these changes, some people will choose to move on and we wish them well.”
