Developer to kick-start multi-million pound residential scheme

A major brownfield development is set to move ahead after developers Harworth Group appointed Keepmoat to launch construction on the £22m first phase of the site.

It will be delivering the first of 560 new homes at the Flass Lane development in Castleford.

Wakefield Council have already given planning permission to Harworth in 2015.

A pub and 50,000 sq ft in commercial unit space is also included in the planning.

Keepmoat will deliver an initial 157 two and three and bedroom homes, worth £22m. Work will begin in May.

Chris Davidson, associate director of major projects at Harworth Group, said: “This the first of hopefully many partnerships with Keepmoat on our developments and we have been impressed by what they have planned for the first phase. We look forward to the first of their homes being ready for sale later this year.”

Ian Hoad, regional director for the Yorkshire West division at Keepmoat, said: “Our appointment as preferred developer on this great, new scheme highlights the commitment of Harworth Group and Wakefield Council to provide solutions for aspiring home owners. We’re proud that 75% of our customers are new to the property ladder and we look forward to supporting Castleford buyers to take that all important step too.

“Our roots are very much in Yorkshire and this led to us expanding our presence with the launch of a West Yorkshire division last year. This is thanks in part to the strong appetite and demand for new homes, coupled with our progressive partnerships with both the private and public sector.

“As we continue to grow our presence in the region, we are committed to working with local suppliers and subcontractors, as well as offering employment and training opportunities during the build process.”
