Airline cancels flights to European regional capital from Leeds Bradford

International Airlines Group airline Vueling has cancelled flights to Barcelona from Leeds Bradford Airport just one year after launching.

Airlines Ryanair and Jet2 will still be operating multiple weekly flights to the Catalan capital, popular with holidaymakers.

Ryanair has launched £9.99 “rescue” flights to Barcelona to capitalise on the withdrawal.

Spanish airline Vueling announced its launch at Leeds Bradford in 2015, with flights taking off in spring 2016.

Vueling, which flies to more than 130 destinations, is part of the listed International Airlines Group (IAG) which also has British Airways and Iberia as airlines under its wing.

Tony Hallwood, aviation development director at LBA, said: “It is disappointing that Vueling will not be operating to Barcelona from LBA this summer.

“The Catalan capital will continue to be served at Leeds Bradford Airport by two of our based airlines; Jet2.com will fly four times weekly year round and Monarch three times weekly this summer providing a wide range of options to travel to this fantastic Spanish city.

“For those passengers wishing to access the Costa Brava region to the north of Barcelona, both Ryanair and Jet2 will be operating twice weekly services to Gerona this summer.”

Vueling have been contacted for comment.
