Carbon group secures first client

A NEW Leeds-based carbon research group has already secured its first client just days after its launch.

The UK India Business Council (UKIBC) has announced its intention to develop a base in Leeds, anticipated to be based at 3 Albion Place, where it will work with the International Centre for Legal Compliance (ICLC) to develop a network of members and events to promote both inward and outward investment.

The research group, which is the brainchild of William Ho, partner in Leeds-based solicitors Burton Burton and Ho and barrister Jeremy Barnett, head of regulatory breach at St Pauls Chambers, focuses on helping Asian businesses understand new regluation in the emerging low-carbon economy.

Two other consultancies have been created to offer a complete advisory service.

Carbon Ready – a subsidiary of Oakland Consulting – will provide business expertise on the broad range of topics required to address climate change and carbon management while CarbonReady Legal – a division of Burton Burton & Ho – will offer legal advice.

Sharon Bamford, chief executive of UKIBC, said: “”Engaging businesses to address the challenges of climate change is an integral part of the UKIBC’s agenda.

“We seek out companies that are at the fore front of providing clean technology solutions and I’m pleased to say that the UKIBC are delighted to endorse CarbonReady’s work in addressing this issue of climate change.”

She added: “The UKIBC hopes to have a greater presence in Leeds to facilitate increased trade and investment flows between the region and India.”

ICLC is hoping to promote Yorkshire as the global centre of knowledge for carbon issues ranging from capture and storage, mapping and other environmental and regulatory issues.
