New Year Honours for Yorkshire business figures

DAVID  Jones CBE, who transformed Next into a high street success story, has received a knighthood in the New Year Honours list for services to business and charity.

As well as heading the chain until his retirement in 2001, the 65-year-old Ilkley-based businessman has raised large sums of money for those suffering from Parkinson’s disease, which he was diagnosed with in 1982.

Other Yorkshire-based recipients of New Year Honours include:

Samuel Judah, managing director of Hull-based GBA Group, who receives an MBE for services to the business and community of East Yorkshire.

Thomas Goldberg, from Driffield, chairman of the AWI Group, receives an MBE for services to international trade.

David Kerfoot, managing director of Northallerton-based speciality oils business The Kerfoot Group, receives an MBE for services to business and the local community.

Nicholas Cust, from York, joint managing director of Superbreak, receives an OBE for services to the tourist industry.

Andrew Pindar, chairman of Scarborough-based printing company Pindar, receives an OBE for services to business and the Scarborough community.
