Business forensics company acquired

A DIGITAL technology forensics company which has an operation in Yorkshire headed by a former police officer has been acquired by a US firm.

Stroz Friedberg, a leading technical consulting and services firm specialising in digital forensics, electronic discovery, data breach, online fraud incident response and commercial investigations, has acquired Data Genetics International, the UK’s leading computer forensics company.

DGI’s office in Leeds, headed by former West Yorkshire Police officer Stephen Hirst, works closely with the region’s professional services community .

Stroz Friedberg said DGI’s expertise in mobile phone forensics would complement its own technical skill set and service offerings.

The new UK division, with offices in London and Leeds, will be known as Stroz Friedberg, Ltd. Stroz Friedberg has eight offices in US cities.

Eric Friedberg, co-president of Stroz Friedberg, said: “We have partnered with DGI on domestic and international projects before, so this is a natural extension of our business relationship.

“Our clients will benefit from a strategic advantage most firms cannot offer: immediate, highly capable, and cost-effective response to urgent data breaches and ‘eDiscovery’ matters anywhere in the US, the EU, and, for that matter, the world.”

Julian Parker, co-founder and chief executive of DGI, who becomes a managing director of Stroz Friedberg and chief executive of Stroz Friedberg, Ltd, said: “Stroz Friedberg has an impressive reputation as a leader in digital forensics investigations and eDiscovery.

“DGI will add our leadership in cell phone and mobile device forensics as well as our experience and knowledge of UK and EU business issues to extend the firm’s reach and to quickly assess and remediate our clients’ litigation concerns that hinge on electronically stored information.

Ed Stroz, founder and co-president of Stroz Friedberg, added: “Any delay in the forensic preservation of targeted data can incur the risk of overwritten or corrupted information, raising the specter of fines, sanctions, or lost litigation.”

Stroz Friedberg does work on behalf of eight of the top Fortune 10 companies and 72 of the top 100 US-headquartered law firms.

Data Genetics International was founded in 2001 to provide computer forensics and mobile phone forensics investigations and expert witness services to law firms, businesses, accounting firms, investigators, and insolvency practitioners, encompassing civil and criminal matters, for both prosecution and defence.
