Strong Yorkshire showing in mid-market 250

A NEW league table of the country’s leading private mid-market companies features 15 Yorkshire firms.

Car retailer JCT600 is the highest ranked company in the region, featuring 19th in the Sunday Times HSBC Top Track 250 list ranked by sales.

Ice cream maker R&R, seafood trader Andrew Marr and project consultancy Turner & Townsend all feature prominently in the table which ranks Britain’s 250 leading mid-market private companies that have increased sales or operating profit.

New entrants to the list include Leeds-based Republic which opened ten new stores last year and saw profits rise by 67%. It was sold to US private equity firm Texas Pacific Group for £300m in June.

Card Factory is one of the biggest climbers on the list, rising from 238 to 192 after profits rose to £28.3m in 2009.

Stuart Grant, UK head of corporate and structured banking at HSBC, said: “It is great to see a significant number of privately-owned companies in the North East – including many which HSBC has helped to support – making such a positive contribution to the economy despite tough trading conditions.”
