Conference sales hit £2m in six months

WELCOME to Yorkshire has secured £2m of conference sales in the last six months.
The organisation launched an initiative earlier this year to work with conference bureaux across the region to turn interest in the region’s venues into bookings.
Welcome to Yorkshire wanted to increase the value of corporate business secured by the bureaux and has reached its target of £1.8m six months ahead of schedule.
Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “The figures just announced highlight the importance of our investment in business tourism.
“The four Yorkshire conference bureaux have worked hard to secure this business for the county and the supporting marketing and PR activity has enhanced Yorkshire’s profile as a leading destination for conferences and events.
“In such tough economic times it’s vital that Yorkshire continues to develop and invest in its conference offering to ensure it is top of the agenda for event organisers.”
Welcome to Yorkshire appointed new conference sales executives and embarked on a marketing and PR campaign to push the region as a conference destination.
Recent months have also seen new and refurbished conference venues become available including the £2m expansion of facilities at Elland Road and the opening of the £25m Cedar Court Grand Hotel in York.
