In brief: BRE partnership for ITM; Moorland Energy appoints DLA Piper; Innovation event in Barnsley and more

ENERGY storage and clean fuel company ITM Power is to work with the Building Research Establishment on its hydrogen fuel technology.

The work will focus on renewable hydrogen energy systems for low energy homes with the aim of creating house designs that have a zero carbon footprint

Graham Cooley, ITM Power chief executive, said: “We are delighted to be working with the Building Research Establishment to develop very low carbon footprint energy systems for the built environment.”
 
The research is expected to lead to the construction of a demonstration home.

Martin Watson, development director of BRE said: “We are pleased to be working with ITM Power on the development of this exciting new approach for achieving zero-carbon homes.

“It is important that the building industry considers decarbonisation pathways based on renewable hydrogen and ITM Power’s expertise and technology in this area will be essential to that process.”

A FIRM looking to build a gas processing facility in North Yorkshire has appointed DLA Piper as its legal advisers.

Moorland Energy wants to establish the plant outside Thornton le Dale to clean natural gas from its Ebberston South well before it is exported into the National Transmission System.

Glenn Sharpe, partner and head of the planning team in DLA Piper’s Leeds office, will be Moorland Energy’s principal legal adviser.

INNOVATION will be the subject of a a networking event in Barnsley next week.

Successful business owners will explain how innovation has helped them succeed at the event at the Barnsley Business and Innovation Centre organised by Action 4 Business on behalf of Enterprising Barnsley.

Nigel Trant, director of Action 4 Business, said: “These days you must innovate to keep up and you must continue to innovate if you want to get ahead in business. Everything is changing so fast that to carrying on doing the same thing is business suicide.”

CHILDREN at schools on both banks of the Humber have the chance to name wind farm projects following a partnership between Humberside Engineering Training Association and SMart Wind.

The engineering training agency has created the SMart Futures competition which involves various wind-related challenges as well as asking pupils to come up with titles for the eight large scale offshore wind farm projects.

Last December, the SMart Wind consortium secured the contract to develop a 4GW wind farm of approximately 5,000 square kilometres off the east coast which, on completion, will provide enough electricity to meet 4% of electricity demand in the UK, powering approximately 3m homes.
