Drax positive despite margin pressure

STRONG forward contracts and good operational performance are helping Drax meet expectations despite pressure on power generation margins, the company said today.
New figures show Drax has power sales amounting to 25.6 terrawatt-hours for 2010, 16.7 TWh for 2011 and 10.1 TWh for 2012.
The company said: “Our strong forward contracted position, as previously indicated, represents an accelerated hedge taken out mainly in mid-2009 in response to market conditions at that time.
“We are now reverting to a hedge profile more in line with our historic norm.”
The figures showed Drax fixed price sales were achieved at a price of at £51.30 per megawatt hour rising to £56 in 2011 and £59 in 2012.
Fire crews spent three hours tackling a fire at the power plant near Selby on Sunday.
