Waste equals demand for Helesi’s Yorkshire operation

WASTE management products manufacturer and services supplier Helesi today said its Yorkshire operation was operating “close to capacity” thanks to a surge in demand for waste containers.

The Greek firm, which has factories across Europe and has a major base in Bradford, said that growth in sales for its principal plastic product ranges in waste containers and pallet boxes from both existing and new markets had continued into the first half of 2009.

Services continue to grow at a “satisfactory pace” projected with a notable shift towards more value added long term projects.

Its vehicles and accessories division, acquired in November 2007, also had a strong first year with performance in line with expectations and a very positive outlook for 2009.

The company performed strongly during 2008 with the growth seen in the first half continuing into the second half of the year.

Turnover for the year is expected to be approximately €67m (£60m) compared to €50m (£44.8m) in 2008, reflecting strong organic growth in the company’s core businesses.

Sales have seen growth of 35% year-on-year, representing an increase in each line of business.

Profits were slightly below our original projections due to higher interest costs.

“For 2009, Helesi already has a strong order book across all divisions. The principal driver for the business continues to be growing government regulation of waste collection, management and recycling,” it added.

“This trend is expected to soften impact on the company from the downturn in the global economy, although the company remains realistic with its expectations for growth, which will understandably not be as extensive as previously predicted.”
