Biscuit factory decision gets closer

NORTHERN Foods is expected to decide next month on whether a site in Yorkshire will be home to its new Fox’s biscuit factory.

The Leeds-based group is closing its factory in Batley in 2011, which has led to fears that Yorkshire jobs could be shed if the replacement site is located in Uttoxeter in Staffordshire, which is the other option.

It is understood that three sites in Yorkshire are in contention.

Northern employs 1,200 staff at Batley and 850 at Uttoxeter.

The group wants to build a new £40m plant which will modernise its biscuit business.
