In Brief: Restaurant stakes place in elite list; Opportunities in renewable fuels industry; and more

A NORTH Yorkshire restaurant is eating at the top table after being ranked in an elite guide of the UK’s top 200 restaurants.

The Crab & Lobster, at Asenby near Thirsk, has been chosen for The Food List, compiled by the Sunday Times newspaper and the Harden’s restaurant guide of the country’s best eateries.

As well as sitting alongside Michelin-starred venues including The Fat Duck, Le Gavroche and The Waterside Inn in the main rankings, the Crab & Lobster has been chosen by the Food List judges as one of the UK’s ten best gastropubs.

Earlier this year, the venue was also named as the Best Overall Restaurant at the annual Hi-Life Dining Awards, topping the category in a poll of the 100,000 members of the UK and Ireland’s largest dining club.

Jason Greenwood, managing director of Vimac Leisure, which owns the Crab & Lobster and its neighbouring sister hotel Crab Manor, said: “To be listed alongside so many nationally-renowned restaurants is a fantastic achievement and caps a brilliant year for the team at the Crab & Lobster.”

BUSINESS owners in York are being given the opportunity to gain marketing insights and creative ideas at a free seminar as part of York Business Week.

York–based Acute Marketing, Partners PR and United by Design are teaming up to present ‘Marketing at the heart of business planning’ on November 16 at 1pm at the Mansion House in York city centre.

Nick Eggleton of Acute Marketing, who is one of the organisers of York Business Week, said: “Marketing is so important to business success and this seminar is designed to help small and medium sized businesses to market themselves more effectively.

“The process starts with market insights – research and planning; from this you develop your messages and creative ideas, and then you can put these ideas into action.  It sounds simple but so many businesses do not do it well.”
