Yorkshire firms celebrate going global success

A YORKSHIRE firm which sells its unique products in 75 countries and another that is helping to rebuild Iraq’s film industry were among the winners at an awards ceremony celebrating the region’s international trade success.
The Going Global Awards 2009, organised by Yorkshire Forward and UK Trade and Investment saw six firms gain accolades at a dinner which featured a speech by Mark Palmer, the global brand director of organic chocolate maker Green & Black’s.
Mr Palmer – whose firm now has sales of £40m – told the audience at Leeds City Museum last night that business needs confidence and adaptability to survive in
the current economic climate.
“Those that show a positive attitude will come through it,” he said.
The award winners were:
Best New Exporter: Wakefield-based cable management, power and data solutions firm Office Electrics.
Best Market Entry Strategy: Resources services specialist Bradken.
Most Improved Exporter: Harrogate-based Flow-Mon, which manufacturers distributes flow rate indicators and switches.
Best Exporter: Sheffield-based manufacturer Gripple.
Best Overseas Investment: Sheffield-based packaging firm William Beckett Plastics.
Best New Export Initiative: Human Film, the Leeds/Netherlands-based film production company.
The shortlisted companies in the Going Global Awards were selected from 77 entries.
The Awards ceremony was hosted by award-winning entrepreneur Julie Kenny, a board member of Yorkshire Forward, who founded Rotherham-based Pyronix, which makes electronic security equipment.
