Alex McWhirter is Chief Executive of Finance Yorkshire, the investment fund for growing businesses across Yorkshire and the Humber.
A professional engineer, he spent eleven years working in the engineering industry in various global locations before working in the public sector.
Prior to his role with Finance Yorkshire, Alex was Assistant Director of Business at Yorkshire Forward. He was responsible for Access to Finance, including Enterprise and Business Start Up, Finance and Investment Readiness initiatives, Grant for Business Investment, Grant for Research and Development, and the Rural Development Programme for England.
Previously, Alex worked at Scottish Enterprise, the main economic development agency for Scotland, and with Scottish Trade International, the international trade development agency in Scotland.
He was responsible for operational activities and networks in specific international markets, and for the provision of financial assistance to companies increasing their international business prospects and competitiveness.
In his current role, Alex works closely with the Finance Yorkshire Board and Fund Managers to provide much needed investment to SME’s across Yorkshire and the Humber.
Finance Yorkshire provides seedcorn, loan and equity linked investments, ranging from £15,000 to £2m to help a range of small and medium sized businesses to meet their funding requirements for growth and development.
