Matt is an Audit & Assurance Partner at Armstrong Watson and Lead Partner at the firm’s Leeds office.
After spending his formative years at a large independent practice in Lincolnshire, Matt spent the following ten years providing audit and advisory solutions to small and medium sized businesses at a large national practice in Leeds. During this time, Matt worked with some of the region’s most high profile businesses, however, a desire to focus his work on helping family and owner managed businesses saw him return to independent practice and join Armstrong Watson in March 2014.
In addition to working as a ‘traditional’ audit or accountancy professional, Matt has spent several periods of time working within companies, both large and small, across the UK and Europe. This has allowed Matt to develop a unique insight into the challenges that many businesses face on a day to day basis. This insight enables him to deliver both broad commercial advice as well as oversee the provision of business planning, cash flow forecasting and tailored management information solutions.
Matt is also passionate about helping businesses expand overseas and his involvement with the MSI Global Alliance and his experience of working within large international accountancy networks and listed International businesses, gives both Matt and his clients access to the expertise and contacts necessary to enable international growth.
Matt’s client service approach involves meeting with his clients at regular intervals outside of the traditional year end accounts process. Only by taking the time to properly understand the goals, ambitions and challenges of the business and its owners, can an advisor deliver specific, tailored advice.
Matt was made Lead office partner at Armstrong Watson, Leeds in April 2016. Matt’s vision for Armstrong Watson is to be viewed as the leading professional services firm in Leeds and as the leading provider of accounting and advisory solutions to owner managed and family businesses. Central to this aim is the recruitment, retention and development of quality talent and, as lead partner for the Leeds office, Matt’s focus is on continuing to improve staff engagement and development, while overseeing the recruitment of specialist advisors in key areas of the business.
