Global textile manufacturer Camira was chosen as the overall winner at the Yorkshire Sustainability Excellence Awards.<\/p>\n

Created by TheBusinessDesk.com in partnership with Clarion<\/a>, Deloitte and the Swinton Estate, the awards which are now in their second year, recognise businesses and organisations that are making permanent and positive changes to our society and environment.<\/p>\n

Mark Cunliffe-Lister, the Earl of Swinton, whose Swinton Estate hosted the awards lunch and presentation, said he was \u2018inspired\u2019 by all the award entries and encouraged everyone to continue on their sustainability journey.<\/p>\n

Guest speaker, Gill Mulroe, head of sustainability in operations in Europe, Middle East and Africa at a leading Japanese investment bank and former climate commissioner for the Yorkshire \u00a0& Humber climate commission, spoke of her passion for incorporating disability in to EGS strategies.<\/p>\n

Gill, who has dyslexia and ADHD, said: “It is people with disabilities that often get left behind. For example, in flood situations disabled people can get overlooked as a vulnerable community and, because of displacement, could end up losing the adaptations that provide them with a lifeline.”<\/p>\n

Gill who, recently spoke at the UN on the subject, also encouraged people to ‘open their doors’ \u00a0to those, who like herself, \u00a0are neurodiverse and urged guests to bear this group in mind when looking at their ESG strategies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Sheryl Moore, Yorkshire Editor at the TheBusinessDesk.com, said: \u201cA huge congratulations to the winners. The quality of entries this year was superb which clearly demonstrates how important sustainability is to businesses across the region.<\/p>\n

“We received submissions from such a diverse range of companies both large and small \u2013 from airlines and textile manufacturers to further education colleges and even sausage makers.<\/p>\n

“But what all these businesses had in common was their unwavering commitment and determination to build a better future for us all – whether that was leading on energy transition, reducing carbon admission or protecting our countryside and wildlife. I’d \u00a0like to congratulate each and every firm who was shortlisted for an award.”<\/p>\n
