More than 20 employers across Yorkshire have had to repay around \u00a3750,000 to their workers after the Government cracked down on companies underpaying their staff.<\/p>\n
Gomersal-based facilities management company, CSG FM,\u00a0 topped the list of shame after it was found to owe 467 workers \u00a3529,083.<\/p>\n
Elsewhere, Sheffield contact centre provider, CC33 FS, failed to pay \u00a381,016.88 to 462, and, over in Beverley, Acklam\u2019s Coaches owed \u00a318,570 to 37 workers.<\/p>\n
The employers named by the Department for Business and Trade ranged from large employers to much smaller operations, and those in the middle including independent supermarket chain G.W. Proudfoot in Scarborough failed to pay \u00a316,461.34 to 210 workers.<\/p>\n
The Government says this strong enforcement doesn\u2019t just protect workers, it protects those businesses who do right by their staff from being undercut.<\/p>\n
By taking swift action against these employers, the Government says it is sending a clear message that it will not tolerate those who short-change their workers, regardless of their size or sector.<\/p>\n
Business Secretary Peter Kyle said: \u201cEvery worker deserves a fair day\u2019s pay for a fair day\u2019s work, and this government will not tolerate rogue employers who short-change their staff.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know that no employer wants to end up on one of these lists. But our Plan to Make Work Pay cracks down on those not playing by the rules.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis ensures a level playing field where all businesses pay what they owe whilst workers receive the boost to their living standards they deserve.<\/p>\n
This action comes as the Government introduces the biggest upgrade to workers\u2019 rights and enforcement for a generation through its \u2018plan to make work pay\u2019, which is set to directly benefit around 15 million, or half of all UK, workers.<\/p>\n
From April 2026 the Employment Rights Bill will also establish a new Fair Work Agency with more powers to tackle employers underpaying workers and failing to pay holiday and sick pay.<\/p>\n
The National Living Wage is now pitched at \u00a312.21 per hour for those aged 21 and over, \u00a310 for those aged 18-20, \u00a37.55 for under-18s, and \u00a37.55 for apprentices.<\/p>\n
