Gresham House Energy Storage Fund has moved to expand its footprint in West Yorkshire after agreeing a deal to acquire a second large-scale battery project in Elland \u2014 marking a significant step forward in the fund\u2019s three-year growth strategy.<\/p>\n
The listed fund, the UK\u2019s largest investor in utility-scale battery energy storage systems, has signed a sale and purchase agreement for the conditional acquisition of Elland 2, a 100MW, two-hour duration project adjacent to its existing operational site, Elland 1.<\/p>\n
Elland is already a key hub in GRID\u2019s northern portfolio, and the addition of a second site in the town strengthens what the fund describes as a \u201chigh-performing and strategically located cluster\u201d of clean energy infrastructure. The proximity of the two assets is expected to create construction, operational and grid-connection efficiencies, supporting the fund\u2019s ambition to scale capacity quickly as the UK accelerates its transition to renewable energy.<\/p>\n
Elland 2 forms part of the new project pipeline outlined in GRID\u2019s three-year plan. The acquisition remains conditional on the project securing an acceptable Gate 2 grid connection offer – a milestone expected by the end of March 2026 through the ongoing queue reform process overseen by the National Energy System Operator (NESO).<\/p>\n
Ben Guest, fund manager of Gresham House Energy Storage Fund and managing director of Gresham House Energy Transition, said the Elland expansion represented \u201ca major step\u201d in delivering the fund\u2019s strategy.<\/p>\n
\u201cElland 2 is an area we know well, having built the neighbouring Elland 1 project which energised in November 2024,\u201d he said. \u201cWe aim to begin construction within the next few months and will be procuring long-lead items in the meantime.
