{"id":2149096,"date":"2026-01-19T15:52:11","date_gmt":"2026-01-19T15:52:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/yorkshire\/?p=2149096"},"modified":"2026-01-19T15:52:11","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T15:52:11","slug":"more-than-4000-doncaster-council-workers-set-for-pay-rise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/yorkshire\/news\/2149096-more-than-4000-doncaster-council-workers-set-for-pay-rise","title":{"rendered":"More than 4,000 Doncaster Council workers set for pay rise"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"101\" data-end=\"323\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Thousands of council staff in Doncaster will see their pay rise by 2.5 per cent from April after the Mayor agreed to restore austerity-era cuts, with councillors set to vote on the plans later this month.<\/p>\n<p>From 1 April, staff will see their pay increase by 2.5 per cent, restoring money lost during austerity-era cuts imposed more than a decade ago.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"488\" data-end=\"739\">Following a meeting with Mayor of Doncaster Ros Jones on Monday, GMB confirmed the Mayor has agreed to include pay restoration in her upcoming budget proposals, recommending that full council approve the funding needed to deliver the increase.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"741\" data-end=\"841\">If agreed, councillors will vote on the plans at the council budget meeting on 26 February 2026.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"843\" data-end=\"1049\">Doncaster has been the only council in South Yorkshire yet to reverse austerity pay cuts, leaving thousands of local authority workers worse off for years compared to colleagues elsewhere in the region.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1051\" data-end=\"1175\">GMB says the move represents a breakthrough for members who have campaigned for fairness after years of pay restraint.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1177\" data-end=\"1330\">Sarah Barnes, GMB organiser, said the announcement marked an important turning point but stressed the union would continue to scrutinise the details. \u201cThis announcement is a step in the right direction. Today is progress, and we\u2019ll be going over the proposal to make sure this restoration is delivered properly and without delay. Our members have waited far too long for fairness. GMB will keep members updated as the budget meeting approaches.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The pay rise is expected to be worth millions of pounds overall and will affect workers across a wide range of council services.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1789\" data-end=\"1946\">Final approval now rests with councillors later this month, with unions making clear they will continue to press for full delivery once the
