{"id":2150835,"date":"2026-02-25T07:22:15","date_gmt":"2026-02-25T07:22:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/yorkshire\/?p=2150835"},"modified":"2026-02-25T07:22:15","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T07:22:15","slug":"jet2-holds-firm-on-profit-expectations-despite-gatwick-launch-costs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thebusinessdesk.com\/yorkshire\/news\/2150835-jet2-holds-firm-on-profit-expectations-despite-gatwick-launch-costs","title":{"rendered":"Jet2 holds firm on profit expectations despite Gatwick launch costs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"416\">Profits at <span class=\"hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline\"><span class=\"whitespace-normal\">Jet2<\/span><\/span>\u00a0are set to land in line with expectations for the year to 31 March 2026, with the group forecasting operating profit of around \u00a3439m.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"416\">The outlook comes despite the business absorbing approximately \u00a310m in promotional and start-up costs linked to the launch of its new London Gatwick base, underlining the resilience of demand across its leisure travel operations.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"418\" data-end=\"758\">The Leeds-headquartered tour operator said preparations for its Gatwick debut are progressing well, with first flights scheduled for 26 March 2026. Once operational, more than 90% of the UK population will live within a 90-minute drive of one of its 14 UK bases, significantly extending access to its ATOL-protected package holidays and flights.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"760\" data-end=\"1084\">Winter 2025\/26 capacity remains at 5.5 million seats, up 7.4% on the previous year. Average pricing across both leisure travel products is tracking a similar trend to Summer 2025, with marketing investment being reinvested into pricing to ensure the company continues to offer what it describes as strong value to customers.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1086\" data-end=\"1385\">Looking ahead to FY27, growth is being weighted towards newer and recently established bases, including Bournemouth, London Luton and Gatwick, which together account for an additional 1.1 million seats. More established bases are seeing measured growth of 2%, equivalent to 400,000 additional seats.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1387\" data-end=\"1720\">As a result, on-sale capacity for Summer 2026 is up 8% year-on-year to 20 million seats, ahead of estimated UK market growth of around 5.5% to short and mid-haul beach destinations. Booked passengers are up 7.9%, including more than 260,000 already secured at Gatwick, with the mix of package holidays broadly in line with last year.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1722\" data-end=\"2084\">Fleet modernisation also continues in line with Airbus delivery schedules. The group\u2019s A321neo fleet will increase to 31 aircraft this summer, supporting a peak flying programme of 139 aircraft. The more fuel-efficient aircraft are delivering average unit cost savings of \u00a310 per seat, while also reducing emissions and enhancing the onboard customer experience.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2086\" data-end=\"2339\">In addition, more than 75% of the group\u2019s FY27 fuel requirement has already been hedged, providing some protection against market volatility and helping to partially offset hotel cost inflation and increased sustainable aviation fuel and carbon charges.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2341\" data-end=\"2714\">Chief executive Steve Heapy said the company was \u201cvery pleased\u201d with how the 2026 financial year is concluding and excited about the commencement of operations at Gatwick. He added that the business remains committed to maintaining attractive pricing and investing in its customer-first model as it positions itself for further growth in an increasingly competitive market.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2716\" data-end=\"2951\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">The group will provide a further update in April 2026 and is due to announce its preliminary results for the year ending 31 March 2026 on 8 July 2026, when it is expected to give a fuller outlook for the key Summer 2026 trading period.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jet2
