Yorkshire dealmaker Jonathan Jones is stepping back from frontline leadership at Squire Patton Boggs to pursue a portfolio of non-executive roles and investments alongside management teams.<\/p>\n
Jones, who has clocked up nearly 30 years at the firm and spent the last six years as European managing partner, oversaw a period of financial growth across the firm\u2019s UK, European and Australian operations. Under his leadership, profitability doubled to \u00a3100m while turnover climbed from \u00a3150m to \u00a3275m.<\/p>\n
Jones has also built a reputation as one of the region’s leading private equity advisers, with more than 300 deals under his belt spanning \u00a35m to \u00a3800m.<\/p>\n
His dealmaking philosophy he says has alway been pragmatic. “It’s about recognising which points are worth arguing about and those which aren’t,” he said. “The focus is on getting to the commercial deal that everybody is happy to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jones is will remain at Squire Patton Boggs as a senior partner on special projects, but his focus is shifting decisively toward growth-stage businesses and investor-backed opportunities. He has identified four areas where he intends to concentrate: M&A and private equity support, advisory roles for international businesses, contributions to professional services firms, and backing venture and scale-up companies.<\/p>\n
Jones said: \u201cAcross the North of England, there\u2019s a real opportunity to work with early-stage businesses that have, or need, venture capital or angel backing, helping them scale to a point where they’re attractive to private equity and then supporting this journey.
