Developer Torsion Group has doubled profits and is targeting \u00a3200m turnover despite warning of a potential slowdown<\/p>\n
The Leeds-based group recorded a 41% rise in turnover to \u00a3165m for the year ended 30 June 2025, driven by strong demand in student accommodation and build-to-rent (BTR) developments.<\/p>\n
Torsions pre-tax profit more than doubled to \u00a3814,000, up from \u00a3404,000 in 2024, reflecting the positive impact of strategic investments in staff, senior appointments, and operational structures. Despite this growth, profit margins remain tight at just 0.7%, underscoring the pressures that contractors continue to face even as workloads expand.<\/p>\n
Central to Torsion\u2019s performance is its integrated working model with sister company Torsion Developments. By engaging early at the conception, planning, and pre-construction stages, Torsion can de-risk projects, strengthen governance, and ensure that schemes are delivered efficiently from the outset. This approach has helped the company safeguard profits and reduce the likelihood of costly delays or disputes.<\/p>\n
Geographically, Torsion continues to focus on the North and Midlands, giving it broad coverage across key city markets. Torsion said its strategy has enabled the firm to diversify its portfolio, maintain stability, and grow external client work, which now accounts for 61% of turnover, up from 58% the previous year. Strong partnerships with subcontractors and suppliers have further supported the delivery of schemes on time and within budget, while adhering to the company\u2019s quality and safety standards.<\/p>\n
Despite the rise in profits, cash at bank fell to \u00a33.5m from \u00a35.5m, reflecting the working capital demands of a growing project pipeline. Net assets remained largely unchanged at \u00a32.7m. The company ended June with a secured pipeline valued at around \u00a3659 million, primarily focused on residential and alternative living sectors, including projects of varying scale, type, and location.<\/p>\n
Looking ahead, Torsion has warned that the next 12 months could see flat growth or a slowdown in demand, which may pressure monthly turnover and require additional liquidity support from the wider Torsion Group.<\/p>\n
Nonetheless, management said it remains confident in its long-term growth strategy, with a target to achieve more than \u00a3200m in annual turnover over the next two years.
