Genuit has reported a fall in underlying profits after a challenging first half, but is banking on price rises, cost-cutting and a strengthening infrastructure pipeline to drive growth from next year.<\/p>\n

The sustainable building products group saw revenue rise 3.4% to \u00a3307.8m in the six months to 30 June 2026.<\/p>\n

But underlying operating profit slipped 1.6% to \u00a343.9m, while underlying profit before tax fell 5.2% to \u00a336.8m as weaker volumes and inflationary pressures weighed on margins.<\/p>\n

Statutory operating profit dropped 30.1% to \u00a326.2m, reflecting the weaker trading performance alongside exceptional costs linked to the group’s business transformation and simplification programme.<\/p>\n

Despite the pressure, chief executive Joe Vorih said Genuit had taken ‘decisive and responsible action’ during the period and maintained its expectations for the full year.<\/p>\n

The group, which supplies sustainable water and climate products to the built environment, said it had worked with customers to implement double-digit price increases in response to cost inflation linked to the Middle East conflict.<\/p>\n

It also accelerated efforts to simplify the business and control costs as market volumes came under pressure.<\/p>\n

Trading improved as the half progressed.<\/p>\n

On a like-for-like basis, revenue was down 4.8% across the six months, but the decline narrowed significantly in May and June as pricing action began to take effect.<\/p>\n

In the first four months of the year, like-for-like revenue had fallen 8.7%.<\/p>\n

Vorih said: “Genuit took decisive and responsible action in the first half of the year in the face of challenging market conditions.<\/p>\n

“We worked with customers to implement price increases in response to cost inflation driven by the Middle East conflict and accelerated the simplification of the business and controlled costs in response to lower market volumes.”<\/p>\n

The group has also completed the integration of two acquisitions made in the second half of 2025.<\/p>\n

Both are performing in line with expectations, while commercial synergies from Monodraught have been ahead of plan.<\/p>\n

Genuit’s water division was the stronger performer during the half, with revenue increasing 4.1% to \u00a3217.3m.<\/p>\n

Like-for-like revenue was down 3.3%, but underlying operating margin increased to 16.2%, compared with 15.7% a year earlier.<\/p>\n

The Davidson businesses, acquired in September 2025, generated an EBIT margin of more than 20% during the period, ahead of Genuit’s medium-term target.<\/p>\n

The group is also seeing increasing activity around AMP8, the latest five-year investment cycle for the UK water industry.<\/p>\n

More than \u00a32m of AMP8 project orders have been secured, including a project worth more than \u00a31m for delivery in February 2027.<\/p>\n

The quotations pipeline now exceeds \u00a39m.<\/p>\n

Genuit said further simplification, including site rationalisation, should generate additional operational synergies and margin improvement in 2027.<\/p>\n

The climate division had a more difficult half.<\/p>\n

Revenue increased 2.4% to \u00a389.7m on a reported basis but declined 8.1% on a like-for-like basis.<\/p>\n

Underlying operating margin fell to 9.7%, from 13.9%.<\/p>\n

The division was affected by a \u00a31.5m provision for slow-moving stock and a further \u00a3800,000 impact from a supplier quality failure, both at Adey.<\/p>\n

Genuit said the education sector was benefiting from the mobilisation of contracts, creating further opportunities for the business.<\/p>\n

While the immediate trading environment remains challenging, Genuit is increasingly focused on a series of structural growth opportunities expected to gather pace from 2027.<\/p>\n

The group believes these regulatory and sustainability-driven programmes will increase demand for its water management, heating, ventilation and climate products.<\/p>\n

“The group remains well placed in markets with regulatory and sustainability-related growth drivers,” said Vorih.<\/p>\n

“Structural tailwinds including the Future Homes Standard, Warm Homes Plan, social housing policies and the AMP8 water spending cycle will increasingly create further opportunities from next year.”<\/p>\n

Genuit is also targeting more than \u00a34m of annualised operating profit benefit in 2027 from simplification initiatives already announced.<\/p>\n

Genuit said challenging conditions caused by the Middle East conflict and the current UK political and economic environment are expected to continue through the rest of the year.<\/p>\n

However, it expects margins to improve in the second half as the benefit of pricing action feeds through, Adey’s operational issues do not recur and productivity gains from the Genuit Business System take effect.<\/p>\n

Vorih said: “While we expect these challenging market conditions to persist through the rest of the year, margins will benefit from the pricing action taken in the first half, continued cost discipline and the ongoing deployment of the Genuit Business System.<\/p>\n

“Our expectations for the full year remain unchanged.”<\/p>\n

For Genuit, the immediate challenge is protecting margins through a subdued market.<\/p>\n

The longer-term prize is a business positioned to benefit from billions of pounds of investment in water infrastructure, housing and decarbonisation \u2014 while extracting more than \u00a34m of additional annual profit from a simpler, leaner operation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
