A Bradford textile manufacturer whose roots stretch back more than a century has filed a notice of intention to appoint administrators.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Bulmer & Lumb Group has lodged the notice with the court in Leeds. The development comes more than 100 years after the foundations of the business were laid in the Bradford and Halifax textile industry.<\/p>\n

The group’s history can be traced to 1909, when Smith Bulmer & Co was established in Halifax. A second predecessor, Ambler & Lumb, followed in 1912, with both businesses becoming part of the area’s growing wool and worsted industry.<\/p>\n

The businesses were subsequently brought together, with Bulmer & Lumb formally established in 1931.<\/p>\n

The company expanded during the following decades as Bradford’s textile industry grew, becoming involved in spinning, wool combing and dyeing.<\/p>\n

Its Buttershaw operation became a major post-war industrial development. A purpose-built site was developed during the 1950s, with the new facility occupied by 1960.<\/p>\n

The business was later acquired by Allied Textiles in 1986, bringing the historic Bradford manufacturer under the ownership of the wider textile group.<\/p>\n

It returned to independent ownership in 2002, when a management team completed a buyout of a number of natural fibre businesses from Allied Textiles to create the present-day Bulmer & Lumb Group.<\/p>\n

The potential administration would mark a major moment for one of Bradford’s surviving textile manufacturers, whose history spans the rise of the city’s wool industry, post-war manufacturing boom, decades of corporate ownership and the subsequent revival of independent Yorkshire ownership.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
