A long-derelict site in Featherstone is set to be transformed into new council housing after planning permission was granted for a four-apartment development.<\/p>\n
Yorkshire developer Nicholson & Co has secured consent from Wakefield Council to redevelop the vacant plot on George Street, bringing land that has stood unused for years back into productive use.<\/p>\n
The scheme will deliver four one-bedroom apartments, each designed with an open-plan kitchen and living space, which will be provided as council housing through Wakefield Council for people in housing need.<\/p>\n
Construction is expected to begin in January 2027, with completion targeted for July 2027, subject to weather and build conditions.<\/p>\n
Alongside the homes, the development will include eight parking spaces, electric vehicle charging points, dedicated waste and recycling facilities and landscaped outdoor areas. The apartments will be built using traditional red and orange Yorkshire clay brick to complement the surrounding terraced streetscape.<\/p>\n
