Two long-established Brighouse businesses have closed their doors after almost a century of trading, with the assets of Lord’s Photography and Harrison Lord Gallery now being offered for sale by online auction.

W.B.H Lord and Sons, the company behind the businesses, is set to have its assets sold following the decision to close the operations.

Lord’s Photography dates back to 1929 and became a familiar name in Brighouse, operating a photography business alongside a photo printing service and photography equipment shop from the 1960s.

Harrison Lord Gallery was established in 1979 and built a reputation in the contemporary art market, while also providing bespoke picture framing services.

However, recent ill-health and reduced footfall during regeneration works in Brighouse town centre have contributed to the decision to bring both businesses to an end.

Jeremy Bleazard of XL Business Solutions is the proposed liquidator and has appointed asset advisory specialists Walker Singleton to handle the sale of the businesses’ assets.

The online auction features a wide range of stock and equipment from the two businesses.

Lots include cameras, photography supplies, frames and art gallery stock, alongside studio equipment and photo printing solutions from major manufacturers including Nikon and Fujifilm.

Equipment from Harrison Lord Gallery’s bespoke framing workshop is also being offered, including CNC machinery and more traditional framing equipment.

Bidding is due to close from 12pm on Friday, August 21.

Joel Carroll, asset advisory specialist at Walker Singleton, said the two businesses had been “mainstays of Brighouse town centre” and had developed strong reputations for the quality of their products and services.

He said the assets being offered through the auction were likely to attract a broad range of potential buyers, from professional and commercial businesses to photography and art enthusiasts.

The closure brings the curtain down on two Brighouse names with a combined history stretching back almost 100 years, while the auction offers buyers an opportunity to acquire equipment and stock from the town’s long-established photography and art businesses.
