A Leeds freight company has been shut down after an Insolvency Service investigation uncovered hundreds of thousands of pounds in unpaid debts owed to businesses across the UK, Europe and the United States.<\/p>\n
Malcolm Wright Associates Limited was wound up in the public interest following a hearing at the High Court in Manchester on Tuesday, August 11.<\/p>\n
The company left at least 16 international freight businesses out of pocket after incurring costs between August and October 2024 without making payment.<\/p>\n
The unpaid bills included more than\u00a0US$508,000, \u20ac334,000 and \u00a325,000.<\/p>\n
The Insolvency Service said the company had presented itself as a credible trading operation, including through membership of the JCTrans international freight network, before building up significant debts with fellow members.<\/p>\n
Investigators said the company failed to cooperate with their enquiries and provided no evidence to explain its trading activity or financial position.<\/p>\n
Malcolm Wright Associates also had no current director or person with significant control and had failed to file its latest accounts and confirmation statement.<\/p>\n
The company was incorporated in December 2016 and had its registered office at the Nortech Centre, Nortech Close, Leeds.<\/p>\n
David Hope, Chief Investigator at the Insolvency Service, said the business had given the appearance of being a credible trading company while leaving suppliers, including businesses in the US and Europe, with substantial unpaid debts.<\/p>\n
He said the company could not be located at its registered office and had failed to cooperate with the investigation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will take robust action where companies appear to be used to mislead suppliers, avoid debts, or operate without proper transparency,\u201d Hope said.<\/p>\n
The Insolvency Service said the winding-up action would protect the public and help prevent further losses to businesses.<\/p>\n
The Official Receiver has been appointed liquidator of Malcolm Wright Associates Limited.<\/p>\n
The case follows an investigation into the company\u2019s trading activity and the substantial losses suffered by international freight businesses that supplied its services.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
