A Yorkshire law firm with an international reputation for handling major fraud and financial crime cases has collapsed into administration after 25 years in business.<\/p>\n
Halifax-based Rahman Ravelli has appointed Andrew Hosking and Jamie Taylor of BTG Advisory as joint administrators, confirming the financial difficulties first revealed by TheBusinessDesk.com earlier this month.<\/p>\n
The firm, which also has an office in the City of London, is now closing down, with clients being contacted to make arrangements for their cases to be transferred to other solicitors.<\/p>\n
A notice on its website confirms that money held in client accounts is unaffected by the collapse.<\/p>\n
The administrators have appointed Samantha Palmer of Child & Child Law to oversee the transfer of client funds to other regulated law firms.<\/p>\n
Founded in 2001 by managing partner Aziz Rahman, the firm grew into one of Yorkshire’s leading specialists in white-collar crime, fraud and commercial litigation.<\/p>\n
Ranked as a tier one firm for crime and fraud in Yorkshire by the Legal 500, it built a national and international client base, representing financial institutions, business leaders and wealthy individuals in complex fraud, corruption and money laundering investigations.<\/p>\n
Its collapse follows the departure of director Syedur Rahman, who resigned from the board in August and has since joined fee-sharing firm Keystone Law.<\/p>\n
Announcing his move on LinkedIn, he said: “Rahman Ravelli has been a huge part of my life, both professionally and personally. I will always be grateful for the opportunities I was given, the people I worked alongside and everything I learnt along the way.”<\/p>\n
The firm had continued to handle high-profile international cases despite its financial difficulties.<\/p>\n
In June, it successfully defended oil industry executive and whistleblower Olatimbo Ayinde in a major case which also saw former Opec president and Nigerian oil minister Diezani Alison-Madueke cleared of bribery charges.<\/p>\n
