Thai Leisure Group – the trading company for the Chaophraya and Thaikhun restaurant brands – has recorded a \u00a3591,846 pre-tax loss (2025: \u00a33.6m pre-tax profit) in its results for the year ended 30 January 2026.<\/p>\n
The York-headquartered group also reports a drop in turnover to \u00a328.3m (2025: \u00a331.3m). It employed an average of 547 staff in 2026, down from 615 in 2025.<\/p>\n
In its review of the year, the business states: “The company’s principal strategic focus during the year was to protect and strengthen its two distinct brands while responding decisively to difficult trading conditions.<\/p>\n
“Consumer conficence remained subdued and lower footfall affected the UK hospitality sector. Turnover reduced by 9.4 per cent to \u00a328.3m and the company reported an operating loss of \u00a3400,000. These results reflect the challenging market place.<\/p>\n
“The substantial increase in employer National Insurance contributions imposed significant additional pressure on our business which is naturally labour-intensive.<\/p>\n
“Management undertook extensive work during the year to mitigate this impact through tighter labour scheduling, more efficient working practices, central team restructuring, technology investment, menu and pricing reviews and renewed supplier arrangements.”<\/p>\n
Chaophraya is a premium Thai dining destination brand with six establishments in the portfolio. Thaikhun is a fast-casual Thai dining brand with ten bases in the portfolio. All sites are in England or Scotland.<\/p>\n
Thai Leisure Group notes these two brands occupy clearly differentiated positions within the sector, which provide the group with greater resilience, even in the toughest trading conditions.<\/p>\n
The group says Chaophraya continues to be a major destination brand. It explains its premium positioning and strength in special-occasion dining provide resilience as customers continue to choose the brand for celebrations and memorable experiences.<\/p>\n
However, the group notes Thaikhun is positioned as a more everyday proposition and has greater exposure to changes in routine consumer spending and footfall because many of its restaurants trade from shopping centres and high streets.<\/p>\n
Thai Leisure Group adds: “Despite the challenges facing the sector, the Board remains positive. Both brands have strong identities and loyal followings, supported by experienced restaurant teams and a more efficient central structure.<\/p>\n
“The company will continue to adapt to changing market conditions, invest selectively in the areas that support customers and operations and pursue sustainable, profitable growth.<\/p>\n
“Given the strength of the brands, the actions taken during the year and the company’s continued focus on disciplined execution, the directors look to the future with confidence.”<\/p>\n
