MCR Property Group has acquired Snow Island, a 427-bed purpose built student accommodation scheme opposite the University of Huddersfield.<\/p>\n
The deal, for an undisclosed sum, takes the group’s Flow Student brand beyond 9,000 beds nationally.<\/p>\n
The acquisition completed on 30 October 2026 and marks Flow Student\u2019s entry into Huddersfield. Snow Island is on King\u2019s Mill Lane, around a three minute walk from the University of Huddersfield\u2019s Queensgate campus. It<\/span>\u00a0comprises 89 cluster flats and 427 ensuite bedrooms.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n MCR acquired the property with vacant possession and will now complete a substantial refurbishment programme to bring all 427 beds back into use. <\/span><\/p>\n Communal areas and 207 bedrooms have already been refurbished, with investment continuing across the remaining accommodation ahead of completion targeted for February 2027.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The completed scheme will operate as a single Flow Student residence, combining refurbished accommodation, professional management and resident support.<\/span><\/p>\n Nick Lake, fund director at MCR Property Group, said: <\/span>\u201cSnow Island is exactly the kind of opportunity Flow Student was built for. <\/span><\/p>\n “It gives us 427 beds on the university\u2019s doorstep, in a market where supply has reduced, with a clear opportunity to create value through investment and better operation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe will complete the refurbishment properly and focus on the things students use every day. Flow Student is an affordable brand and we want to deliver a strong product at a sensible price.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cWe also want to build a close relationship with the University of Huddersfield and make Snow Island a positive part of the wider university community.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Dedicated student accommodation supply in Huddersfield has reduced in recent years.
