Learning technology company tackles lack of asbestos awareness in schools

Online learning company, Cloudtrainer, has responded to the recent news regarding the removal of asbestos in schools and the petition to remove asbestos from all schools in the UK by offering free online asbestos awareness training to schools.

Catherine Bardsley, one of the Directors at Cloudtrainer, said: “Whilst the safe removal of asbestos where possible should be a priority for government and local authorities, we believe huge steps forward can be made just by increasing the number of teachers and educational staff who are asbestos aware.

“The vast majority of  UK schools were built pre-2000 so may very likely contain asbestos. Yet most teachers and janitorial staff can’t identify asbestos containing material, or know the signs to watch out for. Without this knowledge, how can incidents be reported and the right next steps taken?

“Asbestos awareness training can take just 45 minutes to complete and it could provide teachers and staff with the skills to spot and report any material they come into contact with on a regular basis.”

Cloudtrainer argues that this is particularly relevant given the season when many schools have put up decorations and created displays which may involve placing pins into walls and ceilings.

“When it’s time to take the decorations down and remove the pins do school staff know whether they may have disturbed asbestos? We feel strongly that this information should be distributed and passed on to local education facilities and so, to help keep our hard-working teachers and school staff safe, we are providing our Independent Asbestos Training Provider accredited online course free to schools.”

Any school interested in the free training offer should contact Cloudtrainer on 0113 274 4987 or email hello@cloudtrainer.co.uk
